What Is This Website About?

about 12 hours to live

The name “12 Hours To Live” was a result of what the surgeon told me that night  “I give you a 3% chance that you’ll live more than 12 hours” . After my experience I look at every day like I still have a 97% chance of dying which keeps my focused on what really matters.

What matters is life in Christ and my calling is to  encourage others to find true love. It’s a strange paradox how facing death brings you to life.

On January 3rd, 2014 I once again was in the emergency room with heart failure, and they thought they might have to operate. I made a decision that night I had to get all this down. and asked God to empower me to do so.

Since I am a father, I have my kids in mind as I write this site.  I’m just posting things I think might help others that come into my life as they happen. The journey is the reward in a life with Christ. You won’t see any “un-discovered” truths here as there are none to be found. Truth is old and simple in it’s nature, and evil is complex, confusing and murky, and I can’t help but share how God took me from weakness, confusion and futility, to surrender, and through his power has given me a life of simplicity and power.

The church I attend has been called to be a “bridge church” to help first heal others and then lead them to a life directed by the Holy Spirit. In a small way, the vision I have for this site is to use the experiences I have had and am now having, to be a “bridge of sorts” to help others to find resources online and most importantly to a bible believing church in their city where they too can find healing.

I have never been able to hide what is going on inside of me so I guess God created me to  “process externally” and  from an early age, whatever was happening to me emotional or spiritually people would know. This got me into allot of trouble in my life at the times when I was in bad shape. I’m doing the same thing here on this site, just writing what has happened and is going on in my life now.

12hourstolive is a blog. Since the definition of a blog  is what is happening on a particular subject, this blog is simply my testimony of my surrender to Christ. I am praying every day that God gives me the strength to “walk worth of his calling” and I know I will fall short of perfection , but I can say it will be for real.

No Glory In Me

What is the coolest thing about life with Christ is that I can now boast in my weakness and pointless pursuit of a life to suit myself. How much freedom comes from “throwing the old man under the bus” and giving the glory to him for any change that might occur.

Paul wrote a letter that really helps understand who God is using to further his work and I hope is an encouragement to you:

“Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and the best” among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”? That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything that we have—right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a fresh start—comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. That’s why we have the saying, “If you’re going to blow a horn, blow a trumpet for God.” – 1 Corinthians 1:29-31 (The Message)

Amazing to me how my motivations, attitudes and way of life was completely and radically reversed and by surrendering over and over, have gone completely against my natural human nature, and then to my surprise, finding true love, peace and purpose that was in front of me all my life.  When this happens, you can’t help but shouting it from the rooftops!

The eye witness Matthew is way better of describing the terms of the deal and what I am committing to when I follow Christ:

“Jesus sent his twelve harvest hands out with this charge:

“Don’t begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don’t try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously.

“Don’t think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don’t need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment, and all you need to keep that going is three meals a day. Travel light.

“When you enter a town or village, don’t insist on staying in a luxury inn. Get a modest place with some modest people, and be content there until you leave.

“When you knock on a door, be courteous in your greeting. If they welcome you, be gentle in your conversation. If they don’t welcome you, quietly withdraw. Don’t make a scene. Shrug your shoulders and be on your way. You can be sure that on Judgment Day they’ll be mighty sorry—but it’s no concern of yours now.

“Stay alert. This is hazardous work I’m assigning you. You’re going to be like sheep running through a wolf pack, so don’t call attention to yourselves. Be as cunning as a snake, inoffensive as a dove.

“Don’t be naive. Some people will impugn your motives, others will smear your reputation—just because you believe in me. Don’t be upset when they haul you before the civil authorities. Without knowing it, they’ve done you—and me—a favor, given you a platform for preaching the kingdom news! And don’t worry about what you’ll say or how you’ll say it. The right words will be there; the Spirit of your Father will supply the words.

“When people realize it is the living God you are presenting and not some idol that makes them feel good, they are going to turn on you, even people in your own family. There is a great irony here: proclaiming so much love, experiencing so much hate! But don’t quit. Don’t cave in. It is all well worth it in the end. It is not success you are after in such times but survival. Be survivors! Before you’ve run out of options, the Son of Man will have arrived.

“A student doesn’t get a better desk than her teacher. A laborer doesn’t make more money than his boss. Be content—pleased, even—when you, my students, my harvest hands, get the same treatment I get. If they call me, the Master, ‘Dungface,’ what can the workers expect?

“Don’t be intimidated. Eventually everything is going to be out in the open, and everyone will know how things really are. So don’t hesitate to go public now.

“Don’t be bluffed into silence by the threats of bullies. There’s nothing they can do to your soul, your core being. Save your fear for God, who holds your entire life—body and soul—in his hands.”  – Matthew 10:5-28 (The Message)

We are all called to share the good news, so in your own way, where God has you now you can be a witness to a better way of life and a light to the world!

I believe God has a plan for your life.

“And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death.” – Revelation 12:11 (NASB)

I believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power and in glory; that this triune God created all, upholds all and governs all.

I believe that the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts and infallible rule of faith and practice.

I believe in GOD THE FATHER, an infinite, personal Spirit, perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love; that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men; that He hears and answers prayer; and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

I believe in JESUS CHRIST, God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. We believein His virgin birth, sinless life, miracles and teaching, His substitutionary atoning death, bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, perpetual intercession for His people and personal, visible return to earth.

I believe in the HOLY SPIRIT, Who came forth from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify and empower for ministry all who believe in Christ; we believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher and Guide. We believein the present ministry of the Holy Spirit and in the exercise of all the Biblical gifts of the Spirit..

I believe all MEN are sinners by nature and choice and are therefore under condemnation, that God regenerates by the Holy Spirit, those who repent of their sins and confess Jesus Christ as Lord; that Jesus Christ baptizes a seeking believer with the Holy Spirit with power for service, often subsequent to regeneration.

I believe in the universal CHURCH the living spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and all regenerated persons are members.

I believe in the personal, visible RETURN OF CHRIST to earth and the establishment of His Kingdom; in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, and eternal blessing of the righteous and endless suffering of the wicked.

I believe what is termed “The Apostles Creed” as embodying fundamental facts of Christian faith.
